Rev. Johann F. Buenger founded Lutheran Family and Children's Services (LFCS) in 1868. As America was being torn apart by Civil War, Pastor Buenger was asked to care for the son of a dying soldier. Soon, word spread that a Lutheran pastor was caring for orphaned children. For over 150 years, LFCS has continued his legacy of care and concern for children and families. Today, members of the Johann F. Buenger Society keep his vision alive by supporting the work of LFCS through their foresight, beneficence and legacy gifts.
